Seth, a guardian, once an Egyptian God, tortures Solin to find out a dangerous secret: the hiding place of the key of the Olympos. The prisoner has not said a word - yet. Lydia arrives to save her father – and the guardian outsmarts her and tries to lure her into helping him. Seth is also a victim of gory torture… As for pain and torture, there is plenty of those in this book, graphic, detailed violence, which I truly love! The Guardian is highly recommended for fantasy readers.

Debora Geary - A Modern Witch, A Modern Witch Series Novel
Debora Geary, a new American fantasy author, is mostly known about her A Modern Witch series. The first instalment of the series is a novel of the same title: A Modern Witch.
This title was what caught my attention at first. I have a weak spot for dark fantasy, gore, rituals. However, this book is not that one: this is a nice read for young adults (a bit too gentle for my taste, to be honest).
Lauren, an everyday girl in her late twenties, is a realtor in Chicago. One day she discovers that she has magical skills: she is a witch. Soon a good-looking male witch shows up…

Daniel Arenson - Eye of the Wizard, A Fantasy Novel for Young Adults
Daniel Arenson is a fantasy fiction writer, author of the Song of Dragons series. One of his latest novels is Eye of the Wizard, a fantasy adventure story for young adults.
Eye of the Wizard is a nice fantasy fiction – grotesquely humorous and exciting, however, not dark or gory enough for my taste (well, this is for young adults definitely). Daniel Arenson does have a dry sense of humour though.
A dark wizard is up to something evil and a bunch of odd - and slightly awkward - fellows (with several frailties) try to stop him.

Devon Monk - Magic on the Line, an Allie Beckstorm Novel, Awesome Urban Fantasy
Devon Monk, an award-winning American urban fantasy writer, author of Allie Beckstorm series and Age of Steam series, has just come up with another instalment of the former: Magic on the Line.
For some reason Allie Beckstorm, protagonist of Magic on the Line and the series, reminds me of Ellen Ripley of the Alien films (goodness knows I love that girl).
This time the tough lady faces a tide of dark magic: dead magic users return - to kill. The new leader of the Authority, Bartholomew Wray, denies the obvious: something evil (other than a deadly epidemic) is let loose and kills people out there. Allie for once refuses to comply the Authority...

Dannika Dark - Sterling, First Novel of Mageri Series
Dannika Dark's debut novel Sterling is a gloomy urban fantasy fiction.
The main character of Sterling is Zoe Merrick, a young lady, whom, on her way home, somebody happens to murder. When Zoe wakes up, she meets a photographer Adam Razor who takes her home and helps her - and she finds out that she has oddly changed. (Thus far, the story reminds me of The Crow - Clash by Night by Chet Williamson; Amy Carlisle found by David Levinson.) However, Zoe's helper is not an eerie Crow but a good-looking and self-assured man, Justus De Gradi. It turns out that Zoe is not a human any longer, she is, just like Justus, a Mage. Justus is willing to teach her; a long and cruel training process follows. However, someone who has revived Zoe after she was killed did it for a reason...
